The S&amp;P 500 average returned 16% while the Investletter Model Portfolio came in 1.4 percentage points behind at 14.6%.<\/p>\n<p>Our cumulative return over this same time frame is 301% versus the S&amp;P 500&#8217;s 54%. While we have only published the newsletter the past nine years, the same strategy has beaten the S&amp;P 500 Average eleven out of the past thirteen years (year ending 12\/31\/2012) and returned a cumulative 480% matched against a 24% return on an investment in the S&amp;P 500.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past five years our model portfolio returned 46% versus a 9% return for the S&amp;P 500 Average.
